All Things Azeroth #317 just finished recording. It was an unforgettable episode, and a bittersweet end to a chapter in the podcast.
I knew this day was coming a short time before everyone else found out. Following episode #315 Medros and I had a chat on Skype that felt like it lasted an hour even though it took only 5 minutes.
I couldn’t believe what I heard when he asked me to be a co-host of the show. To be honest it’s still a bit surreal to me that this is actually happening.
Four months ago I was just a novice WoW and Diablo 3 blogger who loved podcasts and wanted to do something a little different with my blog. The changes that have come since then and the opportunities I’ve been given have been truly remarkable.
I won’t be the only new host on the show. Right now we’re still in the works of figuring that all out. I’m in agreement with Medros that the show could use a third voice as it moves forward, and you’ll see that at the very least in the form of guest hosts such as WoW machinima artist and former podcaster Nananea who will be on the Nov. 5th episode.
With All Things Azeroth recording on Monday nights, does that mean Realm Maintenance is in any jeopardy of delays or worse? Not at all.
So here’s a bit of what happens behind the scenes. I tend to write the “script” for the show on Sundays. By that point I’ve already recorded and edited the interview portion of the show which is half the battle right there. When 3pm Eastern comes on Monday, I check for last minute edits to make due to breaking news or such, and then record and edit the show. By the time All Things Azeroth is in pre-show I have Realm Maintenance ready to publish just after midnight Eastern time.
If anything, working on Realm Maintenance helps a ton in preparing for any other show I might be on. All the news I comb through and the podcasts I listen to in the past week help give me some more insight as to what’s going on in the community. Outside of the couple of hours of recording the show and perhaps researching a trivia question to ask, it’s not really much extra work on my part to co-host.
Will All Things Azeroth be the same as it has been? Absolutely not, that’s really just impossible in my opinion. I’m not Shade, and I could never replace what she brought to the show. What I can do is do my best to bring an equal level of energy and passion for World of Warcraft in my own way.
I look forward to this new chapter, and I invite all of you to come along for the ride.
