Realm Maintenance: Ep. #33 – 500 WoW Things

Yes, Monday's episode was a prank, and now back to normal! In this week's real show the 5 WoW Things podcast hits 100 episodes, patch 5.3 datamining keeps going, and a listener is looking for some podcast-style PvP.

Rolling Restart: tri-spec data files are just an experiment. Rho wonders whether the experiment goes further than Ghostcrawler lets on.

As usual the show takes you Around the World of Warcraft in 80 Seconds, researched from news on Battle.net, MMO-Champion, WoW Insider and Wowhead.

Note: raid progression is tracked on wowprogress.com, and the standings mentioned on the show were only accurate at recording time. Congratulations to Blood Legion on their Heroic Lei Shen kill right after we recorded.

  • Tri-spec sounds more interesting now than it used to, mostly because the newer, simpler and more meaningful talent system should make it easier to build.

Gearing a third spec shouldn't be hard. Plenty of guilds end up disenchanting a lot of loot once a raid is on farm, and many specs can share gear anyway, such as healers with caster DPS, or feral with guardian. Tier sets might cause some trouble, though.

Keeping it up wouldn't cost much either, since gems and reforging are cheap. The expensive part may be the better enchants, especially those that need several Sha Crystals, or crystals of any kind if tri-spec misses this expansion. With less gear being disenchanted, crystals could get pricey.

My guess is that most players would run two PvE specs and one PvP spec, rather than one spec from each tree.
